Helping fund ‘Schoolbags’ part of ‘Hope for Tomorrow’s Generation’ charity in Romania: a one-year holistic support of a child from a poor family to access education. State education is free but equipping a child is not. ‘Schoolbags’ provides books etc and clothes, shoes, good nutrition, family and school visits. Please pick up an extended information sheet from various places in the church and/or phone Allyson McGregor 07979012175. Any donation will be very much appreciated, by envelope or direct to church, marked ‘Schoolbags’. On behalf of Mihai & Adriana, thank you.

World Mental Health Day: 10 October was world mental health day. The World Health Organisation states: ‘The overall objective of World Mental Health Day is to raise awareness of mental health issues around the world and to mobilize efforts in support of mental health’. We live in a broken world, and at times it can be tough going! However, we believe that the Lord sees, understands, and cares for every aspect of our lives – including our mental health. You will find on the pews a small booklet which points us to some Bible characters who experienced mental health struggles. Please feel free to take a copy, look up the Bible passages, and consider the commentary. If you would like to speak to someone please ask, or you can email us through pastoralcare@standrewsbaptist.org.uk. Later in October our communion offerings will be directed to the work of Sanctuary Mental Health Ministries.

The Annual Congregational Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday 20 November. More details will follow in due course, but the annual meeting is when deacons and elders are elected or re-elected. This year, apart from Fiona Barnard (an elder) who is standing down, no deacons or other elders are standing down and seeking re-election. If you are interested in the role of deacon, or perhaps wish to nominate someone please speak with David Harrison or any other deacon.

James Gregory Lecture: The next James Gregory public lecture on Science, Religion and Human Flourishing will be held on Monday October 14 at 5.15 pm in the main lecture theatre of the Medical Sciences building. All are welcome. It will be given by Professor David Lahti entitled “Humans, The Idealistic Species” and will discuss the question of human uniqueness. See jamesgregory.org.uk for more information.

St Andrews churches’ Team & Impact will be holding “The Glow Party” on Sunday 27th October, 3-5pm, at HT for children. You need to register beforehand. Email standrews.churches.holidayclub@gmail.com for more information.

PRAYER ITEMS FOR OCTOBER:
Sunday: Continue to give thanks to God for the immense privilege given to us to worship Him freely, openly and without fear of being persecuted in this country. Pray that we may not take that for granted, and that we may fully give ourselves to him in worship and service of Him.
Monday: Give thanks to God for the Bible, the wonderful gift God has given us and through which He speaks so powerfully into our lives. Pray that we may have a hunger and thirst for His word and that we may be eager to read it, meditate upon it and receive it when it is proclaimed.
Tuesday: Pray for folks in our family, neighbourhood, town, and church who do not yet know the Lord Jesus Christ, to have a personal encounter with him. Pray that we may continue to be salt and light of this world.
Wednesday: Pray for healing and strength for those who are experiencing mental health struggles. Pray that they may know that the Lord knows them, that He sees their struggles, understands them, and cares for them.
Thursday: Pray for peace in the Middle East, and for peace in countries and communities torn by wars, conflicts and divisions. Pray also for healing of the mind.
Friday: Give thanks to God and pray for our ministry with the Students (Awake, Postgrad group, gathering under Jae Ha and In Hwa, and the Storytelling group) in our town. Pray that our church would be a family where they can feel they belong and be nurtured spiritually in their faith. Pray for those who host and lead these gatherings, that they may continue to be guided and led by the Holy Spirit.
Saturday: Give thanks to God and pray for our ministry with the Children (tots+, crèche, Beacon Kids, Rooted and Impact), the elderly (Balnacarron and St Andrews Care Home) and Hope at the Hub. Pray for the leaders and all the volunteers of these ministries. Pray that these ministries (and others) continue to be fruitful.
