Deacons are appointed by the church to serve the church by spiritually leading the administrative management of the church. They are the legal trustees of the church and are responsible and accountable* for its good governance.
Jesus said, I am among you as one who serves (Luke 22:27). If you want to find out more about the biblical basis for the role of Deacon, take a look at Acts 6:1-7. Or if you want to find out about the qualifications for anyone who serves in the church in this way take a look at 1 Timothy 3:8-13.
In St Andrews Baptist, deacons serve for three years and must then be re-affirmed by the Church Meeting. They are the legal trustees of the church and are responsible for the management of church facilities and to ensure church financial operations are properly accountable. They ensure that all ministries of the church are accountably operated and resourced in line with our constitution.
